Our One-Day Safer People Handling Course provides participants with the core theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills needed for safe moving and handling, specifically adapted to their workplace settings. The course runs for six hours, with an additional hour allocated for breaks. To ensure focused instruction and individual support, class sizes are limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

Course overview

* The trainer will demonstrate and provide small manual handling aids. Where applicable, larger moving and handling techniques will be demonstrated using the site’s own equipment.

- Comprehensive Coverage –Gain an understanding of key legislation, including the ‘Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended),’ to support compliance and clarify legal responsibilities.

- Understanding Spinal Function – Explore the causes of back injuries and learn best practices for back care. Understanding spinal function is essential not only for injury prevention but also for supporting long-term health.

- Identifying and Avoiding Controversial Techniques –The course will highlight people handling techniques that are considered unsafe or controversial, helping participants identify and avoid potentially harmful practices.

- Introduction to Manual Handling Aids – Explore a variety of small manual handling aids designed to make tasks safer and more manageable. Practical demonstrations will also show how to use these aids effectively in real-world situations.

- Practical Demonstrations – Take part in hands-on training using safer manual handling techniques based on biomechanical principles. This practical element ensures participants can confidently apply these skills in real-life situations.
- Hoist Practice (Where Applicable) – Hoist practice will be included for those who need it, providing a demonstration of the safe use of lifting equipment—particularly relevant in healthcare and care home environments.
